A powerful storm that hit the western part of Serbia last night left behind true devastation. People in 1,000 households in the Dragacevo region woke up without electricity supply to their homes this morning.

“We’ve been hit by a cataclysm, something I have never seen in my life. Sky and earth came together, lightnings were striking everywhere. One struck a power line and left us in pitch dark. We haven’t had power for hours, we are afraid that our refrigerators and other electrical appliances will break down,” Nikola, a resident of Dragacevo, told RINA.

The heavy storm that lasted for more than two hours did not cause any damage to the road infrastructure, while on-duty crews are working to restore electricity supply.

“The storm left a large part of our municipality without power. Currently, work is being carried out to repair the low-voltage grid. The villages of Kotraza, Vica and Milatovici are currently without electricity,” said Milija Milenkovic from the Roads of Dragacevo public company.

A weather disaster did not bypass the Gornji Milanovac region either, where one satellite antenna got hit by strong lightning.

“There was a blast like during the (1999) bombing and the screen went black, I went outside and saw that the antenna was still smoking, while the receiver switched off,” said a local in a village near Gornji Milanovac.

The strong storm that hit the center of the municipality swept away everything it its path, uprooting trees. On-duty teams managed to remove broken trees from the roads in order to normalize traffic.
